| From the President’s
Desk In effort to expand
membership overall as well as generate the funds necessary for the
operation of the AADE, your National Board of Directors will be hosting a
membership drive/fund raiser this September 23rd, at the Houston Farm &
Ranch Club. The format will be a Fin, Feather & Fur Food Fest cook off.
If you are part of the oilfield community, operator, contractor or vendor,
you are encouraged to enter a cooking team and participate in the
competition. Not only will this be a great opportunity to have
conversation with your industry associates as well as enjoy some really
good eating but it will also be fun and you may even win a nice gift.
Watch the AADE web page for details and make plans to participate.
As mentioned in an earlier “From the
President’s Desk” article, one of the most rapidly expanding endeavors of
AADE is the “Knowledge Box” teaching tool. We are now in the process of
planning an advanced version of the “Knowledge Box” for use at, of all
places, Washington, DC. It seems that our industry has assembled a group
of highly skilled lobbyists to care for our interest. Although they may
be highly skilled in the art of lobbying, some of them we have discovered
are woefully lacking in the basic understanding of E&P operations.
Hopefully AADE, through the Knowledge Box program can help our industry
diplomats become more knowledgeable and therefore more effective in
representing our interest.
Now I want to make a follow up comment to
the previous “From the President’s Desk” topic on AADE Student Sections.
This endeavor continues to expand and a new Student Section recently has
been chartered at the University of Texas, Austin. Furthermore, some of
the new Student Sections are working through their parent Chapter to
solicit speakers. This is a great opportunity for operators and service
companies alike to make business and technical presentations to these
young prospective petroleum industry professionals. Remember, these young
people may be a future employee or a future customer, so if you would like
to participate, contact your local AADE chapter board.
The bi-annual Fluids and Waste Management
Spring Technical Conference was just recently completed in Houston and
again with outstanding success. Wasting no time, AADE selected Baker
Hughes’ Tim Marvel as chairman for the planning and implementation of the
AADE National Board’s bi-annual Spring 2005 Tech Conference. This is a
general conference featuring a wide array of topics and exhibitors, and
plans are being developed to hold it at a location more convenient for all
participants. Monitor the AADE web site for the
call for papers
and solicitation of exhibitors.
Ladies and gentlemen, the 2003 / 2004
year will shortly come to a close. I want to thank all of the National
Board members as well as the hard working members of all nine chapters for
making this a successful year and for making AADE the energetic growing
organization that it is.
Your president,
Andy Ellis |
