From the
President’s Desk:
We are drawing to
a close of another AADE year and it has been a pleasure to serve as
your president for a third term. I also look forward to serving as
a Director on the National Board where I can continue to work for
this fine organization far into the future.
I am very please
to announce that AADE received an Award for Excellence in
Education from the Engineering, Science and Technology Council
of Houston (also known as ECH). AADE was chosen for this award due
to our dedication and service to K-12 STEM education and
particularly AADE’s support of quality teacher training. ECH stated
that they were particularly impressed with AADE’s commitment to the
Project Expanding Energy Education (PE3) and in
particular the Teacher Workshop led by Jean King this last winter.
Your National Board as well as the local chapters will continue to
promote petroleum energy education in public schools across our
great country.
You may recall
from my last newsletter that I had the privilege to serve as a
science fair judge at the Harmony School of Excellence in Houston.
This is a Texas state charter school campus with kindergarten
through 12th grade enrollment that focuses on science,
math and engineering. Realizing the need to encourage our children
to enter the science and engineering arena and the “funding”
situation (or lack thereof) of or schools, I am pleased to inform
you that your AADE National Board funded the purchase of a Knowledge
Box as well as a substantial amount of engineering and science lab
equipment for this school. I am also pleased that Halliburton
stepped up to the plate and funded the training of the Harmony
School teachers on the use of the Knowledge Box/ PE3
Guide.
Now things get
even better. Your AADE National Board contributed to and supports
the Engineering Science Fair of Houston. Competition in this event
comes from the winners of the science fairs across the Houston
area. I am pleased that a student, Angelica McCarron, from the
Harmony School of Excellence entered a project in the Engineering
Category of this event and won an “Award of Excellence”. Her
project title was Building a Programmable Submersible. One
would think that this young person may someday in the future move
into the world associated with deep water offshore oil and gas
production. I seem to recall that our industry does have a large
number of ROV’s operating in this area.
The AADE 2007
National Technical Conference and Exhibition was held last April in
Houston. There were 40 exhibitors and 500 registered attendees.
Not only was the event a great success but your National Board and
local chapters funded the attendance of 99 university students and
faculty advisors from the 15 Student Sections.
As I stated in
the last two newsletters, I am proud of the recent growth of AADE
chapter sponsored university and college Student Sections. AADE now
has a presence on campuses from West Virginia to Anchorage.
The AADE Mission is to provide the
forum for the dissemination of practical drilling technology to
those employed or interested in the drilling industry. The AADE
Vision is to be the leading forum for the dissemination and
interchange of drilling practices and technology. And
the AADE Values are to promote professionalism and respect within
the drilling industry, the community, and the environment in which
it co-exists. With the wide range of activity provided by
the chapters and the National Board of Directors, AADE’s Mission,
Vision and Values goals are most certainly being achieved.
Thank you for
being part of AADE and taking this organization to the premier
position it has achieved.
Your National
Board of Directors President,
Andy Ellis |
