1. Mike Morgenthaler, President – Cutpoint Inc.
Presenting – “Solids Control: How do you know it’s working”
The presentation focuses on the often-overlooked role that solids control plays in reducing drilling costs. “Lessons learned” will be shared based on the experience evaluating solids control performance on multi-rig fleets in the shale plays. The use of easily collected and meaningful KPI’s that can be used to assess solids control performance will be discussed.
Mike Morgenthaler started his career with Halliburton as a mud engineer in 1980. He subsequently worked for Baker Hughes, Sweco Oilfield Services, and National Oilwell. Mike founded Cutpoint in 1993 to supply consulting services and training to drilling management teams. Cutpoint strives to help customers standardize backyard operations using a data driven approach. Mike has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
2. John Donaldson, VP Operations – TEMS International
Presenting – “SCE optimization under EPA guidelines / Reducing carbon footprint and waste management generation / Disposal”
The presentation will focus on optimization and technology of newer generation of shale shakers. Being able to maintain OOWC below 6.9% well average, correct sampling technic. By achieving this we can reduce carbon footprint, reduce drilling waste generation and onshore treatment disposal.
John started his career in the drilling side with KCA in the North Sea 1985. In 1997 John joined QTEC international, where he was involved in high level environmental audits on offshore, onshore drilling assets, leading to continuous involvement throughout the complete project in waste management and testing SCE performance, becoming a member of BP worldwide audit team. After 21 years with QTEC, John, joined TEMS International in 2017 to present day.
John has been involved in many global projects in key areas such as GOM, Alaska, Trinidad, Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela, Norway, Holland, Denmark, China, France, South Korea, Brazil, Baku, Thailand, Australia, Vietnam and Malaysia.
3. Jason Clark, Director of US Leasing, Technical & Brandt Sales – NOV
Presenting – “iNOVaTHERM Thermal Technology
Our iNOVaTHERM™ portable treatment unit efficiently treats oil-based drilling waste on both onshore and offshore locations, allowing you to eliminate the costly transport of waste while meeting all environmental requirements for disposal. As a multi-energy source indirect thermal treatment unit, the portable treatment unit processes various drilling wastes, including contaminated drill cuttings, oil-based muds, oily sludges, and slops.
Unlike other technologies, our portable treatment unit uses non-frictional indirect heating to maintain constant temperatures with lower energy requirements, which improves efficiency with quicker start-up and shutdown times, lowering NPT.
In addition to reducing environmental impact, the system’s higher treatment capacities, decreased energy consumption, and reduced manpower requirements will lower operating costs. Further cost savings can be recognized through recovery of expensive base oil.
Jason Clark is the Director of US Leasing, Technical, and Brandt Sales with NOV. He has been with NOV Wellsite Services for over 11 years, specializing in Solids Control & Waste Management solutions and reducing Operators cost of ownership recovering base oil at the drill site and reducing costly dilution. Jason started as a closed loop operator in S. Texas in 2011. Since then, he has excelled in various positions such as S. Texas Technical Support, Southern US Technical Sales Manager, US Technical Sales Manager, and US Leasing & Technical Sales Manager. When he is not trying to help with a solids issue on a rig, Jason is an avid golfer and enjoys spending time with his family.
